Jesus turned four of his future apostles away from their fishing careers, transforming them into evangelists instead, or as Christ called them, ‘fishers of men’ (Matt
4:18–22; Mark 1:16–20; Luke 5:1–11). Additionally, after Peter returned to being a fisherman in John 21:1–17, Jesus led him away from this career again, making him the
leader of his Church instead [if John 21:1–25 is not a later addition]. Regardless, Jesus probably led his apostles away
from being fishermen because the Bible negatively portrays fishing through metaphor and description.
